Somebody is a rock song written by Bryan Adams and Jim Vallance for Adams fourth studio album Reckless (1984).
It was the second single released from the album Reckless. The song topped the Billboard Mainstream Rock Tracks chart and peaked at number 11 on the Billboard Hot 100.
Stewart Mason from Allmusic said "Following the Big Rawk Anthem ("Run to You") and the Sensitive Power Ballad ("Heaven"), "Somebody" covers the third base as a straight-ahead singalong pop song with a killer chorus. A gift to an entire generation of cover bands working the bar circuit, "Somebody" has a chorus so simple and catchy that you can actually sing along to it even if you've never actually heard the song before, and Adams and his indispensable musical partner, Jim Vallance, helpfully point out the feasibility of said activity by incorporating a large, somewhat ragged group of backing vocalists for the lengthy vamp of a fadeout. Rather like "Run to You," "Somebody" is just slightly too schematic to qualify as an all-time heartland rock classic, but it still sounds good on the radio."
Somebody was part of the 24 songs, for which the first file-sharing copyright infringement lawsuit brought by major record labels to be tried to a jury.
Jammie Thomas, single mother of four, was found liable in a 2007 trial for downloading the 24 songs from Kazaa and ordered to pay $222,000($9,250/song) in damages, in a second trial, in 2009, a jury again found against Thomas, this time awarding $1,920,000($80,000/song) in damages.

Michael Buble - "Everything" (live at Madison Square Garden)

Everything is a Grammy Award-nominated single, recorded by Canadian singer Michael Bublé, and released as the lead single from his third major-label studio album, Call Me Irresponsible.
Bublé wrote the lyrics of "Everything" for his then girlfriend Emily Blunt.
He later explained: "I wrote the song about the great happiness of real love, but at the same time I was making a statement about the world. We’re living in really crazy times, and I wanted to say that no matter what’s happening, this person in my life is what really makes it worthwhile."
Unlike Bublé's other work, this song strays away from being big band oriented, and carries a more adult contemporary sound, carrying some elements of pop and rock.
It is completely devoid of a horn section, as well as being guitar driven. A piano and an acoustic guitar carry the main melody of the song, with electric guitars audible in the chorus. Bublé's vocal arrangement is also different to his previous material; his voice often makes big interval changes in most of his material, but his voice in this particular song is projected smoothly without going into loud intervals. It is comparable to his previous hit, and adult contemporary single, "Home", from the album It's Time.
The music video for the song features scenes of Bublé performing the song into a mic, as well as holding an open audition for actors and entertainers to appear in the video, finally choosing the right candidate at the end.
The video was posted on the popular video sharing site YouTube, where to date it has received over thirty-six million hits. Bono impersonator Pavel Sfera makes a cameo appearances in the video.
In Italy, the song topped the digital singles chart in April 2007, before reaching the top of the overall singles chart over a year later in June 2008.

Tom Petty And The Heartbreakers - Into The Great Wide Open

Into the Great Wide Open is the eighth studio album by American rock band Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, first released in July 1991.
The album was the band's last with MCA Records. The album was the second Petty produced with Jeff Lynne after the success of 1989's Full Moon Fever.
The music video for the title song starred Johnny Depp, who had moved to Los Angeles as a teenager to seek rock stardom, along with Gabrielle Anwar, Faye Dunaway, and Matt LeBlanc.
For the most part, Into the Great Wide Open was warmly received by critics.
Dave DiMartino, reviewing the album for Entertainment Weekly said that the album was the closest "classic" album Tom and the band have made in fifteen years, saying that the album was a return to their first two albums. He feels that this is due largely to Jeff Lynne and that the songs are better than the ones on Full Moon Fever.
Rolling Stone critic, Parke Puterbaugh, called the album a cross between Full Moon Fever and Damn the Torpedoes, said that it features Petty's best lyrics and that it is much better than Let Me Up (I've Had Enough).
Stephen Thomas Erlewine of Allmusic felt less of the album, saying that it sounds too much like Full Moon Fever, which he thinks should not have been as successful as it was. He said that the album was "pleasant" but was not his best.
In his Consumer Guide, Robert Christgau gave the album a one-star honorable mention, calling it "a worthy effort consumers attuned to its overriding aesthetic or individual vision may well like.

Garbage - Only Happy When It Rains

Only Happy When It Rains is a song written and produced by alternative rock group Garbage for the band's self-titled debut studio album. The song was recorded at the band's own recording studio, Smart Studios, in Madison, Wisconsin, being mixed twice before its release. The bleak content of the lyrics was intended as a parody of the angst filled themes present in mid-1990s alternative rock, as well as a sarcastic reference to Garbage's own preference for darker themes.
"Only Happy When it Rains" was released as the third single from the campaign for Garbage in both the United Kingdom (in September 1995) and North America (in February 1996), being issued in three formats vinyl, CD maxi, and cassette.
The song received positive reviews, praising the production and Shirley Manson's singing, and became the band's breakthrough single, charting strongly on both the UK Singles Chart and Billboard Hot 100. It also crossover to pop radio formats, propelling their debut album into the Top 100 of the Billboard 200 for the first time, and the song's music video, directed by Samuel Bayer, received much airplay on MTV. "Only Happy When it Rains" has gone onto to be an enduring work for the group, being featured in the video game Guitar Hero 5 and receiving covers by Richard Cheese, Katerina Graham and Metallica.
The song's bleak lyrics were explained by Marker as a mockery of the angsty "wearing your heart on your sleeve thing" themes prevalent in mid-1990s alternative rock songs, as well as a self-deprecating reference to Garbage's own dark lyrics, with Manson explaining that the song was "a dig at ourselves because we like records that don't make us feel very happy, and at this so-called 'alternative' scene of 'we're so weird and more wonderful than everybody else'". Vig added that "'Only Happy When It Rains' was about what happened with grunge and the angst-filled thing which has dominated the American alternative rock scene. With us there's self-deprecation, we have to poke fun at ourselves because we're so incredibly obsessive about the songs and the lyrics, which makes us filled with self-loathing, hurhur."
Garbage admitted to referencing both the title of the The Jesus and Mary Chain song "Happy When It Rains" (1987) and Manson's own Scottish psyche.
Lyrically, Manson described "Only Happy When It Rains" as "about wanting love but knowing life will always get in the way.... yet not being obliterated by that. It's a song for people that know what it is like to live on the dark side of life. It's about devotion but a different kind. A devotion to the truth and to freedom... and to hell with the consequences."

Fine Young Cannibals - She Drives Me Crazy

She Drives Me Crazy is a song recorded by English group Fine Young Cannibals, included on their 1988 album The Raw and the Cooked. The song peaked at Number 5 as a single in the band's native UK in January 1989 (it was released on New Year's Day) before hitting Number 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 in the US on 15 April 1989. It also reached Number 3 on the Dutch Top 40.
The unique snare drum "pop" sound was created by recording the snare drum portion separately. A speaker was then placed on top of the snare drum, and a microphone below. The original recording of the snare drum part was played back through the speaker and re-recorded.
Two music videos were produced for the song, one by Philippe Decouflé and one by Pedro Romhanyi. Similar to Decouflé's only other music video, New Order's "True Faith", his version includes extensive choreography and performers in unusual costumes, including two identical dancers with completely different coloured-outfits, as well as a person with a television on their head. This version received several nominations at the 1989 MTV Video Music Awards, including Best Video.
Parodies
American comedian Arsenio Hall, under the pseudonym "Chunky A", recorded a novelty parody of this song, called "Ho is Lazy." It appears on the 1989 album Large and In Charge.
"Weird Al" Yankovic parodied this song as "She Drives Like Crazy" for his 1989 soundtrack album UHF - Original Motion Picture Soundtrack and Other Stuff.
Kermit the Frog and Miss Piggy recorded a version as the opening track to the 1994 Muppet album Kermit Unpigged. A music video, featuring cameo appearances by various celebrities, was released to promote the album.
The Fine Young Camels sing "C Drives Me Crazy", a "Sesame Street" parody of "She Drives Me Crazy". A camel in the Mojave desert (voiced by Paul Jacobs) sings about how he loves the letter C and things that start with C. He is backed by two male Anything Muppets dressed as Arabs. A cat and a cookie also sing and dance along. The number features an introduction by Jerry Nelson, stating it's their "greatest, and only, hit ever."

Change the World is a song written by Tommy Sims, Gordon Kennedy and Wayne Kirkpatrick which was recorded by Eric Clapton with backing by Babyface for the soundtrack of the 1996 film Phenomenon. The song won Grammy Awards for Record of the Year, Song of the Year (for the songwriters), as well as Best Male Pop Vocal performance. The song was chosen by the RIAA as one of the Songs of the Century, ranked at #270.
The single peaked at #5 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in the summer of 1996. It also spent 13 weeks at #1 on the adult contemporary chart and remained on that chart for over a year and a half (80 weeks), a feat which was extraordinarily rare at the time.[1] Since then, however, certain songs have remained on the AC chart for extended periods of time, prompting the eventual creation af an Adult Contemporary recurrent chart for songs that have stayed on the chart for many weeks and fallen below a certain threshold.
Although "Change the World" is better known as an unplugged acoustic track, a rare electric performance of the song was featured on Babyface's 1997 live album Babyface MTV Unplugged NYC, with Clapton on co-lead vocals, playing his namesake signature Fender Stratocaster guitar. There was also another electric cover of this track, released the following year, with Nathan East on electric bass.
In the song, the performer expresses his desire to communicate his love to an unnamed woman. This love, he fears, will go unrequited without a drastic change in his life.
Previous to the release of Clapton's hit version, the song was recorded by country superstar Wynonna Judd for her album Revelations, released in February 1996. Wynonna, however, did not release her version as a single despite the popularity of Clapton's.

Cherish the Day is a song by the English band Sade, released in 1993 as the fourth and final single from their fourth studio album, Love Deluxe (1992).
In the black and white shot music video, Sade performs the song while playing a guitar on the rooftop of an NYC skyscraper as her bandmates and a few other people vibe to the music on the streets below. 
Helen Folasade Adu, (born 16 January 1959), better known as Sade is a Nigerian-born British singer-songwriter, composer, and record producer.
She first achieved success in the 1980s as the frontwoman and lead vocalist of the Brit and Grammy Award winning English group Sade.
In 2002, she received an OBE from Prince Charles at Buckingham Palace for services to music, and she dedicated her award to "all black women in England".
In 2012, Sade was listed at number 30 on VH1's 100 Greatest Women In Music.

Diana Krall has had a long time fascination with bossa nova, a type of music which perfectly suits her sophisticated yet sensual style. This culminated in her new studio album Quiet Nights (released by Verve in spring 2009) and in this stunning concert filmed in the home of the bossa nova, Rio de Janeiro, in November 2008. Accompanied by her band and an orchestra, Diana Krall delivers a superb set of standards in true bossa nova style but clearly bearing her unique stamp. 
"Garota de Ipanema" ("The Girl from Ipanema") is a well-known bossa nova song, a worldwide hit in the mid-1960s that won a Grammy for Record of the Year in 1965.
It was written in 1962, with music by Antônio Carlos Jobim and Portuguese lyrics by Vinicius de Moraes. English lyrics were written later by Norman Gimbel.
Ipanema is a seaside neighborhood located in the southern region of the city of Rio de Janeiro.
When sung by female artists the song has often been rendered as "The Boy from Ipanema", such as by Shirley Bassey, Peggy Lee, Petula Clark on the Muppet Show, and Diana Krall on her 2009 album Quiet Nights.

I Need to Wake Up is a song by Melissa Etheridge, written for the 2006 documentary film, An Inconvenient Truth.
It is the first instance of a documentary film winning the Best Song category, beating three songs nominated from the musical film Dreamgirls.
Etheridge received the 2006 Academy Award for Best Original Song for "I Need to Wake Up". Upon receiving the award, she noted in her acceptance speech:
Mostly I have to thank Al Gore, for inspiring us, for inspiring me, showing that caring about the Earth is not Republican or Democrat; it's not red or blue, it's all green.

Bobby Brown or Bobby Brown (Goes Down) is a song by Frank Zappa released on his album Sheik Yerbouti in 1979. One of his best known songs, it was hugely successful in Europe.
The song describes a wealthy, misogynist student named Bobby Brown, "the cutest boy in town", whose life is the archetypical American Dream until a traumatic sexual encounter with "Freddie", a lesbian involved in the women's liberation movement, leaves him questioning his sexuality. He eventually realizes that he is gay and by the end of the song is a self-described "sexual spastic" involved in golden showers and S&M, for which he thanks Fred. This song was more successful in Europe than America and this is why it is only featured on the vinyl and European CD version of Zappa's best of Strictly Commercial.

Dance Me to the End of Love is a 1984 song by Leonard Cohen. It was first performed by Cohen, on his 1984 album Various Positions. It has since been recorded by various artists, and has been described as "trembling on the brink of becoming a standard".
In 1996, Welcome Books released a book called Dance Me to the End of Love, as part of its "Art & Poetry" series; the book featured the lyrics of the song alongside paintings by Henri Matisse.
Cover versions
Vocal jazz singer Madeleine Peyroux recorded a version for the fifth and last of the Queer as Folk soundtracks connected with the Showtime series.
Americana duo The Civil Wars frequently cover the song in concert. One of their live renditions appears on the Live at Eddie's Attic.

The Moody Blues - Nights In White Satin (live)

Nights in White Satin is a 1967 single by The Moody Blues, written by Justin Hayward and first featured on the album Days of Future Passed.
There are two single versions of the song, both stripped of the orchestral and "Late Lament" poetry sections of the LP version. The first edited version, with the songwriter's credit shown as "Redwave", was a hasty sounding 3:06 version of the LP recording with very noticeable chopped parts. However, there are many versions of the single that are listed on the labels at 3:06, but in fact are closer to the later version of 4:26.
Some versions, instead of ending cold as most do, segue briefly into the symphonic second half ("Late Lament"), and, in fact, run for 4:33 (but are also listed on the label as 3:06). For the second edited version (with the song's writing credited to Hayward), the early parts of the song were kept intact, ending early at 4:26. Just about all single versions were backed with a non-LP B-side, "Cities".
Band member Justin Hayward wrote the song at age 19 in Swindon, and titled the song after a friend gave him a gift of satin bedsheets. The song itself was a tale of a yearning love from afar, which leads many aficionados to term it as a tale of unrequited love endured by Hayward. The London Festival Orchestra provided the orchestral accompaniment for the introduction, the final rendition of the chorus, and the "final lament" section, all of this in the original album version. The "orchestral" sounds in the main body of the song were actually produced by Mike Pinder's Mellotron keyboard device, which would come to define the "Moody Blues sound".
Although it only had limited commercial success on its first release, the song has since garnered much critical acclaim, ranking #36 in BBC Radio 2's "Sold on Song Top 100" list.
